Tibetan medicine expands to inland market
Tibet’s medicine system has basically come to fruition, with annual production of over 800 million yuan, according to Tibet Autonomous Region Health and Family Planning Commission.
Having a history of over one thousand year, Tibetan medicine has gradually expanded to inland markets.
The director of the Commission, Pubu Drolma, said production of Tibetan medicine has seen extensive development from manual workshops to industrial production. Currently, there are 18 Tibetan medicine production enterprises in the region, all of which have reached the GMP standard.
In recent years, Tibetan medicine has started to make inroads into the inland market. Tibetan medicine is providing a new choice of treatment for more patients. In Tibet, Tibetan medicine factories have factory outlets selling Tibetan medicine, which also provide a postal service for inland patients. At the same time, Tibetan medicine clinics are springing up in many cities across the mainland.
The person in charge at Tibet’s hospital for Tibetan medicine explained that most Tibetan medicines are taken from the highlands with large temperature fluctuations and strong sunlight. They are mostly herbal, of low cost, easy to use and produce good results.
Tibetan medicine is currently one of the most complete and influential medicines in China, according to reports.At present, Tibetan medicine is also applying to the United Nations for listing as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
