China first unattended radar station has stood eight years on the top of Ganbala Mountain,with a height of 5,374 meters above the sea level on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. This year,another three unattended radars are going to be installed in order to form a radar networkwith the previous ones.

The percentage of oxygen in the air on the Ganbala Mountain is only 48 percent of which atthe sea level. That is why the mountain is viewed as the "life forbidding zone".

As early as October 1965, China completed the construction of Ganbala radar station,which is the highest manned radar station in the world with a height of 5,374 meters abovethe sea level.

For over 40 years, this radar station is used to secure surveillance and provide civilian airnavigation services in Tibet.
