Dritod County of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, the hometown of King Gesar's princess Senjiang Drumo, hosted a bathing ceremony for the princess's statue, Aug. 4, 2015, Chinanews.com reported.
In Gonsar Monastery, a local monastery of Tibetan Buddhism, monks chanted sutras and sprinkled the holy water taken from the Yangtze River onto the statue of Senjiang Drumo. Then a local artist chanted the legend of King Gesar and Princess Senjiang Drumo.
It is said that Senjiang Drumo was born 1,000 years ago in the Jialuo Prairie at the mouth of the Yangtze River. She is a legendary woman from the Jialuo Tribe. The "Drumo" is the highest honorary title conferred to the most beautiful Tibetan woman.
Legend has it that when she was born, the rare snow lion danced on the top of the snow mountains and thunder split the air.
Senjiang Drumo and King Gesar held a beautiful wedding ceremony at the Jialuo Prairie. Thus, she became the heroine of the epic story of King Gesar.
"Almost every mountain and lake here recorded her wonderful songs and graceful dances," said Wenzha, a local academic researcher in Dritod County.
