14th Dalai Lama has no right to change reincarnation system: Redi
The CPC Central Committee held the Sixth Forum on the Work of Tibet just a few days ago. Soon, the Tibet Autonomous Region will carry out activities to mark the 50th anniversary of its establishment. Redi, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) and former vice secretary of the Party Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region received an interview with the Outlook Weekly and aired his views on the issue regarding reincarnation of the 14th Dalai Lama. "Although I have not any direct contact with the 14th Dalai, I, however, know him from his words and deeds in the past several decades," said Redi.
According to Redi, in 1951, the Central People's Government and the former local government of Tibet signed an agreement through which Tibet realized peaceful liberation. At that time, the Dalai Lama made it clear to Chairman Mao and the Central Government that he supported the "17-Article Agreement", and the Central Government also gave him great trust and expectation. He was elected vice chairman of the First NPC Standing Committee in 1954 and concurrently Director of the Preparatory Committee for the People's Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region. However, the Dalai Lama, a double-dealer, went back on his own words. In March 1959, the upper-class reactionary group of Tibet launched an all-out armed rebellion, openly declaring "Tibet independence". After the rebellion failed, the Dalai and his followers fled abroad and set up a so-called “government in exile” under his leadership.
For over 50 years, the Dalai Lama has never given up his claim of ‘Tibet independence’. He later put forward the so-called 'middle way’ and ‘high degree of autonomy’, a strategy and means for his ultimate realization of ‘Tibet independence’. During this period, foreign anti-China forces put a cloak of ‘peace’ on him and dressed him up as the ‘spokesman of the Tibetan people’ and a ‘defender of human rights’. But in fact, he is just an ‘actor’ and ‘tool’. The people of various ethnic groups in Tibet have a clear understanding of his tricks, Redi said.
In regard to the reincarnation issue hyped frequently by the 14th Dalai, Redi said that the Dalai Lama, in total disregard of the religious rituals and historical conventions, made various remarks according to his own political needs. For examples, he said he might be reincarnated, or might not; and his reincarnation might occur in the homeland or overseas…. These paradoxes clearly show that the reincarnation issue has become a political tool for the 14th Dalai Lama to engage in separatist activities and resist the Central Government and make troubles, seriously undermining the normal order of Tibetan Buddhism.
Redi stressed that the Rinpoche reincarnation system is an inheritance way unique to Tibetan Buddhism, different from that of other religions and other Buddhist sects. It was gradually formed and established in the development course of Tibetan Buddhism. The reincarnation of the Panchen Lama, the Dalai Lama and other grand rinpoches has strict religious rituals and historical conventions, and the right to search for the reincarnated soul boy candidates of a deceased living Buddha and confirm the reincarnated soul boy lies in the Central Government. "The 14th Dalai has no right to change the reincarnation system."
