"The development and research of search engine are of great significance to promote information technology of Tibetan language and common prosperity among all ethnic groups, speed up the construction of an integrated national culture, and maintain a harmonious and stable society in Tibetan-inhabited areas," Wang Jianmin said.
In the past two years, the Tibetan Language Commission of Hainan Prefecture has shifted its work focus from website operation and administration to Tibetan-language online search engine development.
The Yunnan Tibetan-language online search engine is a project jointly developed by the Tibetan Language Information Technology Research Center of Hainan Prefecture, Beijing Line Point Technologies Limited, and Northwest University for Nationalities.
Presently, the first phase has been completed. There have already been 25 varieties of more than 127,000 entries exceeding 11.977 million words added to Wikipedia. More than 4,000 volumes of Tibetan texts reaching nearly 200 million characters have also been added. When the "Yunnan Tibetan language" database is completed, it will become the largest Tibetan electronic library in the world.
