Reincarnation of the Dalai Lama
The reincarnation of Dalai Lama has a complete set of religious rites and historical mechanism.
The reincarnation system is the unique inheritance way of Tibetan Buddhism. China adopts the policy of freedom to religious belief, which includes respecting and protecting this reincarnation inheritance of Tibetan Buddhism.
The title of "Dalai Lama" was conferred by the central government with a history of over 400 years, beginning in 1587 when the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) officially recognized the title of "Dalai Lama" and conferred Sonam Gyatso as the 3rd Dalai Lama.
China's government has also formulated "The Regulations on Religious Affairs" and "Tibetan Buddhist Reincarnation Management Approach", stipulating that the reincarnation of any living Buddha including the Dalai Lama should follow the religious rites, historical mechanism and the national laws and regulations.
The 14th Dalai Lama claimed that he had the "authoritative power" on his reincarnation issue, and even thought of appointing his reincarnation while he was still alive, or reincarnating to a foreigner, a woman, or a bee, which is a blasphemy towards the religious rites and historical mechanism of Tibetan Buddhism, a great disrespect to the followers of the religion, and an absolute provocation towards the authority of the central government. Thus, this resort of the 14th Dalai Lama is doomed to fail.
