Since 2014, Shandong Province has invested a total of 9 million yuan into Elmar Village in Shigatse’s Namling County to expand the nursery from the original 340 mu to 890 mu.

The project’s aim is to promote local income, but also to broaden employment options for farmers and herdsmen.

At present, the nursery has 60,000 strains of plant seedlings, and more than 820,000 strains of cuttings.

According to reports, by 2016 the nursery is expected to have 80,000 strains of plant seedlings, yielding a net profit of about 1.5 million yuan.

Within five years of the expansion’s completion, the nursery will have an annual capacity of about 3 million strains of plant seedlings.
