As summer approaches, Tibet enters peak tourist season. The increasing number of visitors has led to tightening supplies of air and train tickets, Xinhua reported.

According to the Tibet Tourism Development Commission, Tibet’s peak tourist season is from May 1 until October 31 every year. During this period, there is likely to be a sharp increase in the number of visitors to Tibet.

According to the Lhasa Railway Station, since May this year, the station has seen nearly 6,000 passengers on average each day. At present, tickets to Tibet have already been in high demand. Sleeper tickets from cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou are almost sold out. However, tickets from directions of Chongqing and Chengdu to Tibet are in relatively low demand; meanwhile, there are still lots of tickets out of Tibet.

At the same time, plane tickets to Tibet are starting to sell out. A staff member from the Lhasa Division of Air China said that as June begins, tickets from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and some other cities are basically full price with high attendance rates.

In July, Tibet will hold a string of ethnic traditional festival activities, such as the Nagqu Damshung Horse Racing Festival, the Shigatse Mt Qomolangma Culture Festival, the Lhoka Yarlung Cultural Festival, and the Lhasa Shoton Festival. During that time, Tibet will welcome a new round of tourists with more scarce tickets meaning that people planning to visit Tibet will have to plan their trips at least a month in advance.
