In Tibet, wedding ceremony is usually arranged during the slack season in farming. In some agricultural and pastoral areas, marriage for young men and women will general be followed as "parents' wills and match-maker's introduction".

When a young man takes a fancy to the a woman, he will invite a match-maker to take the wine hada and any other objects to the woman's house.

If the woman's family agreed with the marriage, they will drink the wine and accept other presents, then the match-maker will come again to discuss more details about the wedding ceremony such as the dowry. The dowry is generally not too much to avoid the neighbors, friends and relatives' gossip; otherwise, the marriage will fall through.
