School classes resumed on Tuesday in earthquake-hit Gyirong County in Tibet Autonomous Region's Shigatse City, according to local education authorities.

Seven elementary and secondary schools, and three kindergartens in Gyirong were forced to suspend classes due to buildings damaged by last month's quake.

Lessons resumed in temporary tents, and bread and milk was prepared in school storage facilities for the students, according to Lhasang Santen, head of the local education bureau.

The damaged school buildings will be repaired soon, Lhasang Santen added.

The 8.1-magnitude earthquake in Nepal on April 25 also affected the southwestern region of China, especially Shigatse City. The earthquake killed at least 26 people in Tibet, with more than 800 injured.
