Southwestern Tibet's Nyingchi Prefecture retains a high percentage of forest coverage and boasts diverse vegetation. Located near the lower reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River, it is blessed with a semi-humid climate and fascinating scenery. With a large number of river valleys and alpine gorges, Nyingchi is also called the "Switzerland of Tibet".
Being famous for the various flowers in Nyingchi, many tourists would flock to see the peach blossom, yellow peony blossom and azaleas blossom during different seasons. As one of the symbols of spring, the Peach Blossom Festival usually is held during March to April every year, and by convention the festival would mark the beginning of Tibet's tourist season.
