The Tibetan people often wear a short gown with long sleeves made of silk or cloth and a long and loose gown covering it.
They traditionally like to wear cowhide boot. They will sometimes bare their right shoulder or both shoulders, and tie the sleeves around the waist so as to move more easily. Tibetan women wear an apron around the waist.
In the Amdo area (a historical geographic name referring to today's Amdo-Tibetan-speaking areas in Qinghai, Gansu and Sichuan provinces), the costumes are usually exaggerated and sometime costly as they are decorated with rare jewelry and beeswax and are likely to have been passed down for several generations.
