The Black-necked Crane Nature Reserve in Linzhou County of Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, was set up in 1993 with a total area of 96 square kilometers. With abundant food for black-necked cranes, the predominantly agricultural Linzhou County attracts thousands of beautiful birds each year to spend the winter.

The population of black-necked crane is mainly distributed along the Yarlung Zangbo River, the Lhasa River and the NyangQu River.The local Tibetan people regard the black-necked crane as a holy and auspicious bird.
