First unit of Zangmu Hydropower Station enters into electricity generation

On November 23, 2014, the first unit of Zangmu Hydropower Station, the first large hydropower station constructed partly by CGGC on Yarlung Tsampo River entered into electricity generation successfully.

Deputy Secretary and Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region Losang Jamcan and other leaders presented at the ceremony of power generation. Under the witness of all guests, No.1 unit ran well and generated electricity, being connected into grid successfully.

Zangmu Hydropower Station, located in Jiacha County, Shannan Prefecture, Tibet, is a key energy project of “11th five-year plan” and “12th five-year plan” of Tibet, the first large hydropower station, as well as the landmark project marked the change of hydropower station from 100MW to 500MW in the history of Tibetan power. The station consists of concrete dam with maximum height of 116m, crest elevation of 3,314m and dam-rear power houses,etc. 6 sets of 85MW water-turbine generator units, with a total capacity of 510MW, annual power generation capacity of 2.5 billion kWh, are installed in this station.

The key construction projects including right-bank dam, gravel mixing system, installation of cable crane and debugging&installation of units were undertaken by CGGC. The integrated technology of precool and preheat was adopted in gravel mixing system, which is the first time in this industry. With this technology, the output of concrete is increased and the quality requirements of concrete can be met in such high altitude and big thermal difference region. Only 25 months were used to complete the construction of right-bank dam since the first concrete pouring, while the construction period stated in contract is 33 months. CGGC has laid a solid foundation for insuring the operation of 2 units this year, and 6 units next year, because of its fast construction rapid and good quality of electromechanical installation.
