Tibetan child goes back home with healthy heart
A Tibetan child named Chimed Lhamo, who used to suffer from congenital heart disease, went back home by train after receiving free surgery and rehabilitation in Beijing.
Coming from Nyima County of northern Tibet Autonomous Region's Nagqu Prefecture, the two-year-old girl had been dying at one point in Lhasa before her coming to Beijing, and the expenses of her illness gave a big financial burden on her family.
In order to cure her, both the hospital in Beijing and many other caring people acted together to raise a fund of over 70,000 yuan (more than 11,000 US dollars) for her surgery, and she has gone back home with a healthy heart.
Due to the high altitude and severe climate of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, local children are much easier to get congenital heart disease than those in other areas of China. Statistics show Tibet has over 10,000 children with congenital heart disease, all of whom would be cured sooner or later with various helps. Aimed to help them for free treatment, a series of aiding projects and charity projects have been conducted.
