The large-scale open-air show about Princess Wencheng is a musical drama, based on the relationship between a Han princess and a Tibetan king.

The drama is based on the story of a 16-year-old Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) princess Wencheng, who spent three years traveling from Chang'an (the current Xi'an in Shaanxi Province) to Lhasa to marry the king of Tubo(a kingdom on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from 7th to 9th century), Songtsan Gampo. She had lived in Tubo for about 40 years until her death.

The princess is remembered by the local people for bringing Buddhist scriptures to Tubo, and some crafts and literary works from her original hometown.

The drama setting is likely to become a regular architecture in Lhasa, which aims to promote the local tourism.

As more and more tourists are attracted to the performing site, the large-scale live drama "Princess Wencheng" has become a new eye-catcher on Lhasa's travel map.
