New railway ship more passengers to Tibet in Mid-autumn Festival
Both the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and the Lhasa-Shigatse Railway received a record number of 128,000 passengers during the three-day Mid-autumn Festival, People.cn reported.
Authority said the number of passengers hit a peak of 34,000 on Sept.6 alone.
It is also the first holiday after the operation of the Lhasa-Shigatse Railway, which transported a total of 10,800 passengers during this period.
One steward said that besides the holiday effect, two other reasons could explain the huge increase: on the one hand, the holiday coincided with the peak of returning students; on the other hand, the recently opened Lhasa-Shigatse Railway attracted more people to travel by train.
