Sports Games kicks off in Lhoka, Tibet

Tibet's 11th Sports Games was opened in Tsethang Township, Lhoka Prefecture of southwest China’s Tibet, Aug. 29, 2014, Chinanews.com reported.
The games consists of 10 major items with 56 events. With the participation of 1,069 athletes in 12 delegations, this year’s sports games is said to be the largest in its history. It is also the first time for regions outside Lhasa, capital of China’s Tibet, to hold the sports games of autonomous level.
The opening ceremony was broken into three parts, including "Meet in Yarlung", "Practice Sportsmanship", and "Share Chinese Dream".
In addition to the athletes’ entrance, performances such as traditional folk dance, Tibetan dice, wrestling as well as calisthenics highlighted the opening ceremony.
Besides classic items including track and field, table tennis, football, basketball, chess, and bridge (a card game), traditional items with strong Tibetan flavor such as dice, wrestling, shooting whistling arrows and holding stones also attract much attention from the public.
