Selective exam of 2015 Lharampa Geshe held in Tibet
A selective test of 2015 Lharampa Geshe degree was held in Drepung Monastery from June 29 to July 4, Lhasa, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
Lharampa Geshe degree is the highest religious degree of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, the examination of which is often held in summer in the Jokhang Temple.
According to Chinatibetnews.com, ten monks from ten Gelugpa monasteries in Tibet including Sera, Drepung, Ganden and Tashilhunpo with an average age of over 40 years old took the exam including debating sutras and taking paper examinations regarding culture and politics.
Rinpoche Drukhang Thubten Khedrup, head of Tibet Academy of Tibetan Buddhism and also member of the Standing Committee of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, was one of the judges supervising this pre-exam for the highest religious degree of the Gelug School.
After this test, candidates for next year's official exam of the Lharampa Geshe degree will be decided so that they can start preparing their dissertation and sutra debating in their respective monasteries.
