The one thousand- year-old Tibetan ancient classic "Sari literature" has completed its preliminary catalog compiling and electronic version generation and input, and will be open to the world for the first time. This will provide valuable information for Tibetan studies at home and abroad, Xinhua reported.
It is learnt from Tibet University that "Sari literature" was unearthed in Shigatse District of Tibet in 2002, and is China’s oldest and richest source of Tibetan ancient documents to-date, containing a total of more than 150 book items and nearly 12000 pages. Its formation dates back to the 10th century.
A researcher from Classic Research Institute of Tibet University pointed out that "Sari literature" literature is rich in content and covers Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism classics, poetry, biographies, etc., preserving Tibetan language, customs, religious belief and other aspects of precious raw material at their original state, and to some extent its academic research value can be comparable to the Dunhuang Suicide Note. At present, Tibet University is working on publishing a photocopied version of "Sari literature" .
According to an ancient Tibetan classic researcher, the book also serves as a valuable source for studying the evolution of Tibetan language grammar, stylistics and calligraphy before the 14th century.
