The Chinese Tibetan cultural exchange delegation to Australia paid a visit to Canberra on June 18 and held talks with Australian parliament senators.
Head of the delegation, professor from Sichuan University, Luorong Dradul introduced the development of Tibet and answered questions raised during the meeting.
Dradul introduced the economic, social and cultural developments and environmental protections in Tibet. He said, the central and local governments have advanced the housing projects for Tibetan farmers and herdsmen year by year, and allocated abundant resources to improve people's livelihood. They are temporarily considering to enlarge the openness of Tibet.
When answering some western governments arguing Chinese government to resume dialogue with the Dalai Lama or his representatives, Dradul said, because the 14th Dalai Lama insists on the stance of supporting "Tibet Independence", the talk could not be carried on.
Dradul also mentioned the problem of self-immolation happened in Tibetan-inhabited areas of China, and revealed that some immolators set themselves on fire because of family and economic problems, and local authorities have adopted many measures to prevent these incidents.
"Through our introductions, Australian parliament senators have known the real situation in Tibet, and they all expressed the hope to visit Tibet," said Dradul.
According to Qiu Weilian, president of Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, they have arranged delegation from New South Wales parliament senators to Tibet in 2013 to increase their understandings of Tibet developments.
The delegation then met with local overseas Chinese, who said they are very glad to receive a delegation from homeland, and they are very proud of the great changes happened in Tibet.
