Love story between Tibetan boy and Thai girl
"Tomorrow I am going to pick up a tourist group from the U.S., so I am going to wash the coach," said 29-year-old Norbu, who has no time to enjoy the coming spring in Lhasa and has been busy in preparing for the peak travel season of Tibet.
"There are a lot of things to arrange to welcome the tourist group," Norbu said, "Thanks to Su, who has just come back from Thailand, I am much relieved now".
Su, as Norbu mentioned, a Thai girl, is his new bride. It was Norbu's job that made him to meet his wife. In 2011, Su with friends came to Tibet for travel, and Norbu working as their tour guide accomplished Su to visit near all of interesting places in Tibet.
"At the beginning, I only treated her as a guest," said Norbu, "After she returned to Thailand, we kept frequent contacts by email and phone."
However, their distinct backgrounds have made Norbu hesitate to push forward the relationship. "Su was a marketing manager in Thailand with richer income than me, who was just a normal tour guide," Norbu added.
In the spring of 2012, the two young men decided to meet in Yunnan, the neighboring province in the east of Tibet. "It was Su who gave me hope," at last Norbu and Su decided to move on their love story.
As for Norbu's parents, they also showed a negative attitude towards this relationship at first considering the language problem. Su could only speak Thai language and English, however, she began to learn Tibetan language to show her determination. "I taught her Tibetan by using the videos and software online, we worked very hard", said Norbu.
The couple's endeavor has moved Norbu's parents. Finally, Norbu and Su got married in 2013.
Now, Norbu has bought two coaches to manage his tourism business, while Su still traveled between Bangkok and Lhasa. "I hope we can both stay in Tibet in the future, for this is the city we both love," said Norbu with condifence.
