Subsidies on medical care for Tibetan herdsmen rising
Government subsidies on medical care for Tibetan herdsmen will be increased from 340 to 380 yuan per person per year, rising for the 11th time since 1993, according to xinhuanet.com.
Millions of herdsmen have benefited from medical system based on free medical service, in which 96.23 per cent of the herdsmen in Tibet have joined by 2013.
Herdsmen having joined in the system can enjoy a maximum reimbursement of 60,000 yuan at the personal contribution of 20 yuan per year.
Free medical service for Tibetan herdsmen is co-funded by central government and provincial government, according to "Interim Measures on Free Medical Care in Tibet Autonomous Region" issued in 1993 by the government of Tibet.
Fiscal subsidy from the Tibet Autonomous Region in 2013 is estimated at 830 million yuan. The total medical fund has reached 930 million yuan, with fiscal subsidy at all levels covering 877 million in aggregate, and individuals contributing 51.6 million.
About 80 percent of the Tibetan population lives in farming and stockbreeding areas in Tibet where medical services are underdeveloped.
