Seven Tibetan consumers' annual online spending has surpassed one mln yuan(164,000 USD), according to the database of Taobao.com, a bustling B2C platform in China.
Large consuming goods such as houses, mobile cars, gold and antiques are among the probable top purchasing list, said staff members of Alibaba Corporation.
As of the 2013 period, online purchasing potential of Tibetan consumers was impressive, with total amount of payment rose by 69.43 percent and number of successful transactions 88.8 percent higher than the same period last year, according to Alipay, China's leading third-party online payment solution.
According to the unveiled top ten consumption growth rates in Tibet, Medog tops with 317 percent, followed by Riwoqe, Dingqing and Markam County in Chamdo, east Tibet.
More Tibetan people resort to online shopping because express companies are more efficient, partly thanks to the improved transportation in Medog, said Ajian Dawa, director of the post office in Medog.
"Before the Medog Highway was operated, all the goods, parcels and letters were not able to enter the Medog County directly. But nowadays, it takes at most four days from Lhasa to Medog," said Dawa.
The Tibetan people's consuming capability is rising and styles are diversifying in recent years. The per capita disposable income of urban dwellers in Tibet was 18,028 yuan, according to the White Paper titled Development and Progress of Tibet released in late October, 2013.
