In spite of the cold weather in winter, workers are still busy with the Lhasa-Nyingchi high-class road project. Apparently normal traffic has not been affected by the construction.

Initiated in May this year, this 409.2-kilometer-long road starts from Liuwu New District of Lhasa and ends at Bayi Town of Nyingchi Prefecture, traveling across four counties and ten townships.

Driving from Lhasa to Nyingchi Prefecture, people can see various signs erected on both sides of the road such as "SLOW DOWN".

In order to preserve the fragile environment along the project, efforts are made to ensure roads are built clear of these areas. When it is inevitable, bridges are used instead.

As a key project of China's 12th Five-year Plan, the Lhasa-Nyingchi high-class road, upon completed, will considerably reduce the driving time between the two points by at least two hours as well as enhance the traffic-carrying capacity. According to the plan, the Lhasa-Nyingchi high-class road is designed as grade one with a speed of 80 kilometers per hour and contains four traffic lanes of two directions.
