Museum combines private collector's effort to protect Tibet culture
The Medrogungkar Folk Museum is to be completed, combining with private collector's effort to better protect Tibetan culture, Lhasa Evening News Reported.
The museum was listed in the 55 key programs of Lhasa this year, covering 18 mu (1 hectare) with the main building area of 1,500 square meters.
It includes two storeys: one is to be designed as the exhibition area for five series of related collections and the other is to act as the living quarters including the offices and dormitories.
The preservation work of local folk museum has received great attention from not only the government, but also the common residents.
Chojor, a private collector, has endeavored to preserve the Tibetan folk cultural relics for nearly 30 years.
All his collections of more than 10,000 pieces will be put on display in the Tibetan folk museum, which contain multiple kinds of things, such as weapon, saddle, silk fabrics, pottery, stoneware, carpentry, costume, coins, and ancient documents. Meanwhile, they cover most of the Tibetan historical period and belong to four different nationalities, including Tibetan, Han, Man and Meng.
