The Mt. Qomolangma Rare Stone Association held its opening ceremony in the Shigatse Prefecture of Tibet on Aug. 29, 2013. At the same time, the first Mt. Qomolangma Rare Stone Exhibition was also staged to display a large number of rare stones, according to People’s Daily.

"Located between the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains and the Himalaya Mountains, the Shigatse Prefecture is rich in rare stones, which are naturally formed and full of aesthetic feelings," said Liu Qizhi, the vice-chairman of the Mt. Qomolangma Rare Stone Association.

According to his introduction, the rare stone culture in China has been existed for over 1400 years. Ancient Chinese people were enthusiastically fond of collecting and appreciating rare stones. To this day, people still retain the interests on stones.

Therefore, the establishment of Mt. Qomolangma Rare Stone Association aims to excavate the profound connotation of rare stone culture and create high-quality travel routes in the Shigatse Prefecture of Tibet. Many cultural activities will be organized in the future for the hobbyists' learning and communicating.

On the first Mt. Qomolangma Rare Stone Exhibition, many hobbyists bring their own stones to take part in the exhibition. Through appreciation, the audience could vote for their favorite stones and rank them according to the popularity degree.
