The 2013 Tibetan Thangka Industrial Development Forum was held in the Mass Art Gallery in Lhasa of Tibet on Aug. 15, 2013, attracting the relative experts, scholars and painters in Tibet to offer advice and suggestions for the protection, inheritance and development of Tibetan Thangka.
Regarding the development status and existing problems of Tibetan Thangka, the guests launched an in-depth discussion about its industrial development pattern and path, and the inheritance and protection in the new media age.
"As for the industrial development of the Tibetan Thangka, I believe there will be more and more Thangka painters, and the artistry of Thangka will be gradually improved and renowned in domestic and abroad," said Tenpa Rabten, the professor from the School of Art of Tibet University.
Ngawang Jigme, another professor from the School of Art considered that the forum has great significant in exploring a new development path for the Tibetan Thangka.
Dorje Dondrup, the dean of the Lhamoila Co Thangka Art Academy also spoke highly of the forum for its communication function.
Thangka is a representation of the state-level intangible cultural heritage in Tibet, and is also an outstanding traditional Tibetan art. It is believed that the forum will bring Tibetan Thangka new opportunities for its inheritance and development.
