Picturesque Hoh Xil Nature Reserve

Hoh Xil Nature Reserve encompasses China's largest area of uninhabited land and it is one of the zones with most perfectly-preserved primitive ecological environment in the world. Also, it is one of the nature reserves with the highest altitude and home to several species of endangered wildlife, including Tibetan antelopes.

The region became well-known following the release of the award-winning feature film, "Kekexili" by Chinese director Lu Chuan. It tells the true story of a journalist who joined a Tibetan volunteer patrol to pursue poachers trading Tibetan antelope skins in Hoh Xil.

A total of 29 species of mammals and 54 species of birds, of which five species are under national Grade I protective (snow leopard, Equus kiang, wild yak, chiru and white-lipped deer), eight under national Grade II protective animals and eight species of rare birds. Special biological species in Hoh Xil Nature Reserve are rare flora and fauna not only in China, but also in the whole world, for they are of great importance in terms of academic research and natural protection.

Due to the severe climate and reverse natural conditions, human beings can not live there for a long time, thus it becomes some kind of "Forbidden Zone for Life". But it offers advantaged living conditions for wild animals and serves as a "Paradise of Wild Animals".
