With the forest coverage rate rising to 74% in Deqen Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, the rare snub-nosed monkeys there have increased from 300 to over 1000, accounting for 60% of the world total.

In recent years, the prefecture hav enhanced the protection of natural forests, returned farmland to forest and grassland, planted shelterbelts, bred cattle scientifically and carried out other key ecological projects. As a result, the forest coverage rate increases significantly and the number of wild animals grows quickly.

Since the implementation of the natural forest protection project, Deqen has turned about 2000 employee in charge of cutting down trees into tree planter and foresters.

It also takes measures to control the environment pollution. It is the first place in China to carry out prohibition on white plastic waste pollution and invests 45.5 million yuan to build swage treatment plant in its Shangri-La County.

With "eco-village" as its aim, the prefecture strives to beautify the rural environment and to improve the living environment. Polluting factories were closed and rules were issued to protect forests, rivers, lakes, grasslands, wetlands, glaciers, snow-capped mountains and wild flora and fauna.
