Qinghai-Tibet Railway stations access to internet
Twenty railway stations along the Golmud and Lhasa railway have opened the internet system, according to the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company.
An official in the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company said that this year the company had invested a lot to enrich the workers’ amateur cultural life. Now, 20 railway stations including Nanshankou, Budongquan, Damxung, Yangbajain and Lhasa West Railway Station have set up the internet systems, and 82 users have been accessed.
Some stations even set up net bars, which are affectionately called “sweet internet bars” by the working staffs of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
“The “plateau net bars” make our tedious life rich and colorful.” said Ma Ji, Party branch secretary of the workshop on Tangula line, Golmud section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
The Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company also equips with 37 desk computers and 8 laptop computers for 26 railway stations along the Golmud and Lhasa railway, which greatly improve the hardware conditions of the “plateau net bars”. The company implements standardized management to the “plateau net bars”, and arranges special staffs as network administrators to maintain the internet systems.
The Tibetan worker Qiangba is an internet fan. “In the past, I don’t know what to do after work, but now, I can check information on the internet, sometimes I can also chat with my girlfriend.” Qiangba said happily.
Considering the harsh working conditions and poor production and living facilities, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company steps up the humanistic concerns to the railway workers, constantly increases the investment on the construction of “cultural line, life line and health security line”.
Since the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, 1.006 billion yuan has been invested to improve the working and living conditions of the railway workers. Many problems have been effectively solved for the railway workers, such as food, drinking water, oxygen supply and traffic.
The total 1,142-kilometer-long railway between Golmud and Lhasa is the highest elevation and the longest railway built on the plateau frozen soils. 960 kilometers of the railway is built on the plateau with an elevation of over 4,000 meters high, and the natural environment along the railway is extreme awful.
