Tibet will accelerate rural road construction in next two years with a total investment of 12.08 billion yuan and 24,157 km of mileage to offer better road transport services in agricultural and pastoral areas, Tibet Daily reported.

According to the letter of responsibility signed by the Tibet Communications Department and prefectures and cities in Tibet, road construction would be started in 406 administrative villages with total length of 5,822 km and estimated investment of 1.45 billion yuan. In 2013, 263 administrative villages are expected to carry out road construction with the total length of 7,773 km and the estimated investment of 1.66 billion yuan.

By the end of 2014, road construction of 669 administrative villages with accessibility conditions would be completed.

Tibet also strives to improve traffic conditions of remote monasteries. It will build road for at least 612 qualified and legally registered temples and sites for religious activities with a total length of 7,874 km and the estimated investment of 3.12 billion yuan by the end of 2013. Road projects have been started around 498 monasteries and religious sites in 2012.

In the next two years, Tibet will gradually carry out 83 asphalt or cement road projects to achieve the goal of the township roads patency rate reaching 60%. The total mileage is 2,688 km and the estimated total investment is about 5.85 billion yuan.
