An ordinary street cleaner in Lhasa has been recognized as one of the national role models, as the results of a quarterly online election were unveiled on Saturday.
Metog, a 33-year-old woman in Lhasa, capital city of China's Tibet Autonomous Region, adopted an abandoned baby girl in 2009.
As a street cleaner, Metog barely makes ends meet after she took on the responsibility of mothering the girl alone.
At present, the girl could call her mother and Metog can't help smiling when her daughter is mentioned.
Her decision to remain unmarried all her life to take care of the baby moves Chinese Internet users.
Ten persons were chosen for their actions and behaviors that touched millions of Internet users across the country. The online election, organized by Xinhua News Agency, was held to inspire moral strength in the general public by highlighting the good deeds of ordinary people.
