In the "12th Five-year plan" period (2011-2015), Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) will speed up the leap-forward development of advantageous industries based on the guideline of focusing on the secondary industry, striving to keep the annual industrial growth rate above 30%, and to reach a total industrial added value of 20.8 billion yuan by the end of 2015, according to source from the Department of Industry and Information Technology of TAR.
The main objectives drawn up for the regional industrial and economic development of TAR in the next five years include keeping the average annual growth rate of secondary industry above 20% with its added value amounting to 45.8 billion yuan by the end of 2015, which is expected to account for 40% of the regional GDP.
In addition, TAR government plans to develop over 10 groups of distinctive and advantageous industries and support a group of leading enterprises in various industries to primarily complete the construction of the local industrial production and processing bases.
In recent years, the regional infrastructure has been consistently improved in energy, transportation and human resources, which has further bolstered the development of industries.
"Tibet is now fully prepared for the development in the next five years. It will be a crucial period for a more vigorous growth of various industries such as energy, distinctive biology on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Tibetan medicine," the source said.
