Symposium on Nepal-China relation held in Kathmandu

A symposium on Nepal-China relation in present context was held in the Nepali capital Kathmandu on Friday, aiming to seek balanced and cordial foreign policy with Nepal's northern neighbor China.

Speaking at the symposium organized by Nepal-China Friendship Center, experts articulated their views on how Nepal should outline its foreign policy with its northern neighbor at present context when China has been rising as economic leader across the globe.

The symposium was held to fetch the different views from experts comprising political leaders, professors, social organizations for cultural exchange.

"The symposium has been organized hoping the answers to the question what sort of supports Nepal expects from its northern neighbor China at the present context of political adversities," said Chairman of Nepal-China Friendship Center Chandra Man Bajracharya.

Addressing the symposium, Deepak Sarkar, President of World Culture Net, a network of China Information Center stressed on need of people's diplomacy between two neighboring countries to understand neighbors properly.

He also outlined that some external elements are using Nepal's soil to foil relation between two friendly countries.

Meanwhile, entrepreneur Surendra Bir Malakar, who is the President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, lauded the increasing volume of Nepal-China trade. However, he stressed that the economic tie between the two friendly neighbors is not satisfactory as Nepal has been facing huge deficit with China.

Similarly, leader of Madheshi People's Rights Forum said, "Amid different political system in Nepal and its northern and southern neighbors, system of humanity is the same." Focusing on balanced foreign policy with northern and southern neighbors, he said, "We respect integrity of China and are committed to 'One China' policy. "More outlets should be opened between two countries to understand each other," he added.

"Nepal and China are neighbors. Now we should chose what should be our foreign policy," said Nepali Congress leader Chakra Prasad Bastola, adding that besides ancient relation with northern neighbor China, Nepal could not deepen it due to the Himalayas. He also said that Nepal has already recognized China's Tibet as its autonomous region and it strongly believes in "One China" policy.

Likewise, Chinese ambassador to Nepal Qiu Guohong said that since 1955, when Nepal-China diplomatic relation was established, Nepal-China relation has been consistently developing to a new height.

Qiu said that China will be continuously supporting Nepal to push for peace process and socio-economical development.
