APEC energy ministers meeting encourages low carbon model cities, low emission energies
The energy ministers from Pacific Rim economies wrapped up one-day meeting in central Japan Saturday with a declaration to promote low-carbon model cities and low- emission energies.
Energy-efficient technologies would be the key to the model cities. Advanced power transmission network or buildings with facilities involving renewable energy generation would be the highlights of these cities, according to the document.
The meeting, held in Fukui, capital of Fukui Prefecture, also urged to continue to give fossil fuels a key role in the Asia- Pacific region.
The ministers called for enhanced preparedness for oil supply disruption by taking measures including cooperating with the International Energy Agency.
In addition, the declaration urged for promotion of nuclear energy, renewable energy, and power generation featuring carbon capture and storage technology.
