The Qinghai-Tibet route continues thousands of miles with the highway and railway running side by side. But at the bordering intersection of Qinghai Province and Tibet Autonomous Region in between, the two lines part company, each going its own way. The highway gets across the Tanggula Mountain sub-pass at an altitude of 5,230 meters, while the railway overcomes the Tanggula Mountain pass west to the express line 50 kilometers at an altitude of 5,072 meters also the highest point of the world's highest railway.
