Tibet to build 1000 information service centers in rural areas
According to the Industry and Information Technology Department (IITD) of Tibet Autonomous Region, 1,000 information service centers will be set up in Tibet rural areas in 2013. All centers will be equipped with printers, PCs with access to the Internet and services provided by staff who have been selected after training to do the job, Xinhua reported. The project will make information technology benefit numerous common herdsmen in Tibet.
Wangdu, head of Information safety office in IITD, said that pilot information service centers in 300 villages have been completed since the policy was put into practice in 2011. Websites for "agriculture, rural areas and peasants" have gone online, like "Tibetan herdsmen information" website and "Operative training information in Tibetan" website, to name a few.
Having been provided with telecommunication and broadcasting access in line with local conditions, Tibetans are enjoying the convenience brought by cable, wireless network as well as satellites, such as surfing the internet, watching TV and making phone calls.
With all incorporated villages have been put through and each county has been covered by 3G mobile network, 96.7 percent of the towns in Tibet Autonomous Region had been connected by optical fibre by the end of 2012. All villages are expected to have access to the internet by 2015, four fifth of which will enjoy broadband, and 3000 will have completed their information service stations.
