Shangri La opens its first music festival

On May 1, Shangri La opened the curtains for its first music festival in the Zongjing District and it is planned to promote advances in the tourist industry of the city through the assistance of cultural activities, China News reported.

The Balagezong National Scenic Area is located in Yunnan’s Shangri La City in the northwest corner, and is one of the core scenic spots within the “three river confluence” world natural heritage Red Mountain district. In August of 2013, the Balagezong scenic spot had two earthquakes which substantially affected tourist developments, and after a long three years of reconstruction, all reconstruction in the aftermath has been completed by now.

 “Many artists are entrusting the Shangri La Balagezong area for the creation of songs, and within it can be found Tibetan culture in abundance, the culture will be fused into tourism, catalyzing tourism based advances is the main objective of this music festival, ” said by Tao Guoxiang, head of the Yuan Culture Industry Investment Holdings Group. The Balagezong Scenic area is the main project of this group’s assistance in the development of Tibet district tourist industry, and have invested 800 million yuan (129 million US dollars), and have created more than 200 job opportunities in the surrounding Tibetan districts.

At the same time, the group also trains the local people, and has given the work of scenic area tourist management, road maintenance, and plant breeding etc. for the local Tibetan peoples, and has improved the living standards of Tibetan civilians. There has been development of poverty alleviation and innovation in aspects of poverty alleviation through developments in culture and the tourist industries.

Tao Guoxiang indicated that coming up there will be more improvements in basic transportation infrastructure to the scenic areas and in accordance with plateau lake development for leisurely tourism development be done under the premises of ecological protection to make outstanding international tours happen.
