She sells Tibetan jewelries in Europe
After running for five years, her Tibetan ornament business has made 1,300,000 euros. Currently she supplies goods to over 30 Italian markets and tourist craft souvenir companies. Businessmen from France, Switzerland and Belgium have also placed large orders. She has certainly become worthy of the name "Queen of Tibetan jewelries".
Zhao Xue was born in Xining, Qinghai Province of northwest China. Five years ago she came to Italy to study in Milan, the renowned "Capital of Fashion". Zhao Xue has always been passionate about Tibetan jewelry and ornaments that are rich in culture and individuality. Every time she talks about her passion to her European classmates, she can't help showing them a few pieces of her collection.
Zhao Xue's collection truly is extraordinary; her exquisite small travelling case is filled with individually wrapped Tibetan silver, red coral, turquoise and delicately made necklaces, lockets, earrings, rings, bracelets, and so on. A wide variety of every kind of style, every piece is elegant beyond compare. On one occasion, a girl named Elisa said to her: "Zhao, you could open a jewelry shop, business would surely be good!"
The speaker said it in a joking manner, however the listener had every intention. The idea for starting a business immediately flashed through Zhao Xue's mind. However, opening a small shop in Milan is no easy task, not to mention whether or not Europeans would accept Tibetan culture from the "roof of the world".
Interestingly, that night Zhao Xue had a very bizarre dream. She dreamt that she excavated a sparkling shining sapphire in the Himalayas. This caused the Qinghai-born girl to create a strong premonition for success; she was determined to take action to turn this premonition into reality.
Zhao Xue pieced together some money to rent a shop front near the town central square. After the little shop was opened, the products which attracted most attention from beautiful Milan girls were the Tibetan jewels that were a feast for the eyes. Enormous Tibetan style earrings, necklaces and rings hanging red coral or glittering turquoise, and even an engraved bracelet; these were all Zhao Xue's treasures collected over many years. The marked price varied from tens of euros to over one thousand euros. Every product was high-priced, but nothing was stopping the beautiful Milan girl's burning passion for shopping. Over a short period of six days she had already earnt over 1,300 euros.
Twenty days later, Zhao Xue had already sold half of the treasures that she had brought with her from hometown. She hurriedly sought the aid of her parents. When her father picked up the phone he smiled: "That is simple, next time I have business in Lhasa I will help you to buy a batch of products and send them over, that will be fine!"
That evening Zhao Xue gave her father a detailed list of items that she wished to purchase over the internet. Before she left her home country she'd heard of Lhasa's famous Barkhor Street; every business on the street sold Tibetan hand-crafted products, the American paper Washington Post once praised it as "super museum of snow land". A little while later her father's goods arrived, it was almost four times the amount that she had asked for, and the goods were also top quality.
As soon as the goods arrived, Zhao Xue immediately put them on display. There was no need to make advertisements; beautiful Tibetan treasures instantly attracted a group of fashionable women, one told ten friends, ten told one hundred! The next morning there was a long queue outside the shop. There was one girl around 20 years-old and fluent in French, she stepped into the shop then selected a few Tibetan ornaments; the products matched her clothes and handbag perfectly in color and style. At the time Zhao Xue thought she looked a little familiar, later it dawned on her that this woman was a big name in a Milan modelling agency.
In terms of business, Zhao Xue slowly realized the most attractive and individual enchantment of culture. Gradually, Zhao Xue also gathered a few pieces of published literature on Tibetan folk customs.
Since business was running smoothly Zhao Xue decided to expand her shop. The decoration in the new shop was completely individual. Inside Tibetan knives hung from the walls along with colorful and magnificent little rugs; it looked simple yet elegant. Her employees also increased from just a couple at the beginning to eight: Chinese international students, Italian girls and even Spanish and Russian international students. Everybody jokingly says that this place is practically the United Nations! They wear neat Tibetan clothing that reveals more ethnic specialty.
After Zhao Xue graduated last year she established a Tibetan artifacts trade company, her future plans are to be China's greatest "Tibetan treasure enthusiast" and sell Tibetan treasures all over Europe.
