Charity surgery benefits DDH children patients from Shigatse
Two Tibetan children suffering from development dysplasia of the hip (DDH) received charity surgery in Shanghai, and another two would receive surgery later, Xinhua reported.
Due to the limited health care at the grassroots level, there are a large number of children suffering from DDH in Shigatse Prefecture of southwestern Tibet Autonomous Region. In order to help them, a medical team of staff from orthopedics department of Shanghai Children's Hospital launched a public benefit activity specialized on the DDH children patients from local farming and pastoral areas. The medical also founded the first diagnosis and treatment center of DDH for Tibet Autonomous Region.
After physical examination and DDH screening conducted by the medical team, four children who are eligible for the surgery were chosen to receive treatment in Shanghai, being the first batch of beneficiaries of the project. Within the year there are still a dozen of children patients would come to Shanghai for charity surgery in succession. After the surgery they would get rid of "duck walk" and could walk and run like normal children.
