Tibetan pupils enjoy spring outing in Norbu Lingka
First-grade pupils of Lhasa No.1 Primary School were organized to attend a spring outing in Norbu Lingka, Xinhua reported.
In Tibet "Guo Lingka" is the most common way to relax, which is favored by almost every Tibetan. Literally meaning "spending leisure time in the lingka (parks)", "Guo Lingka" includes going outings or having picnics in parks or suburbs with family or friends, and is an important part of some festive celebrations, such as the Shoton Festival.
Located in downtown Lhasa, Norbu Lingka used to serve as the summer palace of Dalai Lamas in the past. Now it has become a public park. Meaning "treasure park" ("Norbu" means "treasure" and "Lingka" means "park") in Tibetan language, Norbu Lingka covers an area of 360,000 square meters, consisting of the Galsang Phodrang Palace, the Gyianse Phodrang Palace, and the Daain Myingquelin Phodrang Palace. There are altogether 370 rooms dotted with pavilions, waterside pavilions, hills and lawns; and in the garden, various flowers, grasses and trees were planted around.
