Tibetan students celebrate Losar in Beijing

BEIJING, Feb.28 (China Tibet Online) Tibetan students studying in Beijing Tibet Middle School held a gala to cerebrate the Tibetan New Year, also known as Losar, which falls on March 2 this year.

Over 800 students attended the gala with friends and teachers of Han and other ethnic groups, some of whom also performed for the celebration, and students from their sister schools also performed to express their greetings to their Tibetan peers.

During the gala, Tibetan students expressed their New Year wishes and greetings, and shared their family photos to each other. Songs and dances full of ethnic Tibetan style also eased students' homesickness on this special day.

Li Shicheng, principle of the middle school attended the gala and gave a speech to express his New Year greetings to all the students and their family members in Tibet. According to Li, the school has provided high quality education for over 5,000 students from Tibet during the past decades, and 4,000 of them choose to go back and contribute to the construction of Tibet.

He Guangcai, deputy director of Department of Ethnic Minority Education under the Ministry of Education, also attended the gala.

Founded in 1987, the Beijing Tibet Middle School is a school built exclusively and especially for Tibetan students. It is the only Tibetan high school in the capital of China. At present, over 800 students are studying in the school, all of whom are from the Tibet Autonomous Region.

After graduation, these students would seek further education in universities and then land jobs in different areas of China. Most of them choose to go back to Tibet and work in fields of business, education, politics, media and so on.
