The Tibet Autonomous Region provides free maternal insurance for 47，300 women of childbearing age，Chinatibetnews reported.

All the pregnant and lying-in women with the Tibetan census register, both from the urban and rural area, could get a free maternal insurance when taking childbirth in health institutions with the qualification of midwifery, according to Tibet Branch of China Life Insurance Group.

At the same time, the insurance amount has increased from 50,000 yuan last year to 150,000 yuan.

The insurance beneficiaries cover all the regional pregnant and lying-in women, and infants below three years old.

It includes the accidental injury insurance liability insurance for the pregnant and lying-in woman, insurance liability for women suffering from breast cancer or cervical cancer in pastoral areas, and specific congenital diseases insurance liability for infants from newborn to the 3 years old.

The insurance cost of RMB 200 per person will be paid by the government, with the highest insurance indemnity standing at 150,000 yuan.

The maternal insurance was launched by the Health Department of the Tibet cooperated with the Tibet Branch of China Life Insurance Group in 2010.
