Students' living conditions improved in Tibet
Tibet has vigorously improved students' living conditions by carrying out nutrition improvement plan for students in the stage of compulsory education and building public bathrooms in elementary and secondary schools.
In a bid to improve the nutritional status of students in agricultural and pastoral areas, Tibet has implemented the nutrition improvement plan for students in the stage of compulsory education in 74 counties since the spring semester of 2012. Each student can get 3 yuan food subsidy per day and altogether 600 yuan per academic year.
For example, The Central Primary School of Yangda Township in Doilungdeqen County, Lhasa, provides two meat dishes and a vegetable dish per meal for students.
"After the implementation of nutrition improvement plan, school administrators also hand out milk, apples, eggs to students besides the regular three meals a day,"said Pema Tsering, headmaster of Central Primary School of Yangda Township.
In addition, Tibet has started building public bathrooms for elementary and secondary schools in remote areas since 2012.
It is not difficult for many people to take a bath in most areas of China. However, due to the restriction of infrastructure and economic condition in the remote agricultural and pastoral areas, it is a luxury for Tibetan students to take a hot bath there.
In order to improve its sanitary conditions, about 100 million yuan has been invested in building public bathrooms for 109 schools, and nearly 120,000 Tibetan students benefited from the project.
It was reported that Tibet will finish building public bathrooms for more than 500 schools within three to five years.
