The 16-year-old Dendron was born in Maizhokunggar County, Tibet Autonomous Region. She was diagnosed with congenital heart disease in a public welfare activity sponsored by the China Red Cross and the General Hospital of Armed Police Forces.

On July, 19th, she was sent to the hospital for toll-free medical treatment. Dendron wrote in her diary that she was both happy and frightened. Happy because she would finally receive the operation but frightened because an undetermined result waited ahead. She hoped the operation went smoothly and afterwards she could recover as soon as possible and live as a normal person. On July, 25th, the hospital implemented operations for five patients including Dendron.

The operations went smoothly and were finished with in half an hour except for Dendron whose situation was more complicated. Her operation was completed after more than one hour and some observations by the doctors. On August, 5th, Dendron flew back home with her mates where they would wear khadas (khada, a piece of white silk as a greeting gift, representing auspiciousness) presented by their families and friends.
