Tibetan children to receive free treatment in Beijing
Altogether 20 Tibetan children with congenital heart disease left for Beijing to receive free treatment on July 19, 2013, reported by Xinhua.
The batch of Tibetan children is screened from Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, and Nyingchi Prefecture of southeastern Tibet during a medical aid project earlier.
Jointly carried out by Chinese Red Cross Foundation and General Hospital of Armed Police Forces, a charity project aimed at helping Tibetan children with congenital heart disease has been launched in nearly 20 townships of Lhasa and Nyingchi since July 12, during which medical staff from inland China have conducted congenital heart disease screening for over 6,000 local children under 14 years old.
Medical specialists from General Hospital of Armed Police Forces will continue the selection in southwestern Tibet's Shigatse Prefecture later, in order to reach the aim of finally sending 100 Tibetan children with congenital hearth disease who are eligible for the surgery to Beijing for free treatments.
Located in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, Nyingchi Prefecture is at an average altitude of 3,100 meters and that of Shigatse Prefecture reaches over 4,000 meters, whose high altitude and severe climate make many local children much easier to suffer congenital heart disease than those in other areas of China.
In order to help them a variety of medical aids and charity projects have been conducted, such as free examination and surgeries in inland China.
