A Tibetan woman and her tailor shop
Droma Lhakyi, a Tibetan woman with physical disability, finally realizes her dream with unremitting persistence and optimism, owning a tailor shop near the Ramoche Temple of Lhasa, capital of Tibet.
As the old proverb goes, god helps those who help themselves. The 34-year-old Droma Lhakyi always believes that if one believes in himself, he will be led to success by the dream.
"I had some trouble with walking since I was young, but I always think that I should stand on my own feet instead of depending on my family," said Droma Lhakyi, "Over the past years, the dream of opening my own tailor shop has never stopped in my mind."
Inspired by her dream, Droma Lhakyi worked hard and had never stopped her moving steps. Up to now, she has engaged in the tailoring business for almost 20 years.
In order to achieve her dream, Droma Lhakyi turned to the Disabled Employment Service Center of Tibet for help two years ago and got a start-up allowance of 5,000 yuan.
The dream had come true., Droma Lhakyi opened her tailor shop with the allowance and all her savings over the years.
Hard work paid off. Droma Lhakyi won a good reputation for her adept skills and enthusiastic service. She gained a decent income every month without worrying about customers.
However, the continuous influx of customers has also made replenishing stock a pressure for Droma Lhakyi. She needed to spend more time and energy than others selecting materials for her cripple legs. At the beginning, Droma Lhakyi's sister, also with physical disabilities, helped her to run the shop, but now, her sister has gone back home for worsening illnesses.
"Now, I plan to take an apprentice to help me though the operating cost may increase. And I also want to expand the storefront when I have enough money," said Droma Lhakyi.
