Tibet's first American Heart Association (AHA) training center was officially established on the afternoon of May 11 with the opening of a seven-day's AHA training class in Nyingchi People's Hospital.

The goal of the class, held by a Tibet-aid medical group consisting of a team led by Yu Tao, the AHA Chinese regional director, and a team led by Wei Hongyan with the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from south China's Guangdong Province, is to train a class of teachers and students from Nyingchi People's Hospital so that they can promote AHA first-aid training in the hospital, the city, and even the whole of Tibet in the near future.

"A systematic learning of first-aid knowledge not only teaches healthcare workers to determine the correct first-aid method, but also teaches them to ensure patients' well-being in a professional manner," a leader for the Tibet-aid medical team from south China's Guangdong Province said.

"AHA" stands for the American Heart Association. AHA training center refers to the American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care Training Center. The AHA training courses practiced in Nyingchi People's Hospital include training in basic life support (CPR), advanced life support, first-aid, and automated external defibrillation (AED).
