Over 97 pct of Tibetan people have health records
According to the Health and Family Planning Commission of Tibet Autonomous Region, 97.58 percent of urban and rural residents in Tibet have health records.
A medical and health service system covering both urban and rural areas has taken shape, benefiting more than three million people in the whole region.
“Located on a plateau with harsh natural environment, Tibet has relatively poor medical conditions. The urban and rural residents’ health consciousness is very weak. Through the establishment of health records, the local health department can keep abreast of the health conditions of the masses so that medical treatment can be given in advance and efforts made to improve people’s health status,” said Phurbu Drolma, director of the Health and Family Planning Commission of Tibet Autonomous Region.
To enhance the people’s health consciousness, Tibet’s Department of Health has organized the urban and rural residents to receive free health examinations and established health records for them.
Data show that 97.58 percent of urban and rural residents in Tibet have had health records and free treatment has been given to over 3,000 children with congenital heart disease and more than 19,000 cataract patients so far.
Moreover, Tibet has canceled the pay line for medical assistance and led the whole country in providing the uniform medical assistance for urban and rural residents in the whole region.
The standard of financial subsidy to the basic medical insurance for urban residents has increased to 380 yuan (58.5 US dollars) per capita annually, and all the farmers and herders have been included into the medical assurance system based on free medical treatment.
